Cape Cod Captured on the Leica M-TYP240
Cape Cod changes every day, shaped by the elements, these photographs capture some of the changing moments.
Travelling North out of Chatham you start to see some of my favourite places on the Cape. I spent the day here photographing the salt marches up in Nauset and also so of the less obvious places around Eastham and Nauset.
When the fog rolls in off the ocean everything changes, the light, the colours, the shapes and sounds. I love the contrast between light and dark here.
The thing that changes the most is the ocean, some days it’s still and calm, other days it roars and crashes like a violent beast. In this photograph the fog drew over the ocean making it look very “sharky”.
Seagulls often pass across the ocean out on the Outer Cape. The ocean was still today.
A calm summers day and a lone tree on the horizon punctuates the sky and catching my eye.
The Cape is full of secret places that only give themselves up if you venture deep enough. Almost forgotten, this bridge spans an ancient pond with Lilly pads and bull frogs.
These bathing Buddha’s look up into the sky, basking in the midday sun.
Another secret place, hidden away behind a store in Eastham, the serenity and stillness was a lovely moment.
This wise Buddha has been here as long as I can remember, it sits and welcomes all of those that pass.
Another photograph of the bathing Buddha’s.
Another day of fog out on the ocean, calm and still, the sounds and light shaped by the rolling fog.
The calm salt marsh covered in the fog that has rolled in off the ocean. The moment was silent and still, just the wind blowing gently across your face and the light diffused by the fog.
The salt marshes are wonderful to wander around with your camera, there is always something to soak up and capture. Here the fog diffused the scenery and light as the salt marshes lay still in its presence.
The light becomes diffused by the fog and the textures of the grasses in the salt marshes are accentuated against the bright white sky.
Tall grass in the foggy salt marsh.
Life is barely visible through the fog and only the course texture of the grass breaks through its advancement.
The fog engulfs everything and all that can be heard is the gentle lapping of the waves as they break on the sandy beach.
Walking for a while we suddenly happen upon a small storage shed hidden away in the dunes.
His time is brief, so he snaps a shot of the ocean while three onlookers simply admire the view. Part of a series called “100 Strangers” that I am working on.
